Banaue Miclat-Janssen is an assistant professor (Assistant Professor 6) at the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts and the current Artistic Director of Dulaang UP and UP Playwrights’ Theatre.
Miclat-Janssen holds a terminal Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. She has been a professional theatre actress and singer since 1992 and has performed on various spaces in cities all over the Philippines as well as in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Beijing, Shanghai, Kaohsiung, Tokyo, Hirosaki, and Berlin. Films she has been involved with have been shown in film festivals all over the continents of Asia, North and South America, Europe, and Australia. She is an Aliw Awards Foundation Hall of Fame for Best Performer awardee.
Miclat-Janssen’s focus in class, on stage, and in one-on-one workshops is maintaining balance between pursuing passion for the arts and mental well-being. Her process on the creation of the solo performance entitled Ginugunita Kita—whose 2015 CCP production may be found on YouTube, and album of the same title found on either Spotify or iTunes—is a testament to maintaining a healthy environment whilst continuously healing a traumatic life experience through art.
